Charge data

In the Magistrates' Court, 481 charges of obtain a gain by deception from a Commonwealth entity were sentenced in the five years to 30 June 2023. The most common sentence for a charge of this offence was a community correction order (34.9% or 168 charges).

In 226 cases sentenced in the Magistrates' Court in the five years to 30 June 2023, obtain a gain by deception from a Commonwealth entity was the principal proven offence (the most serious crime in the case). Among the 226 cases, 89 people were male and 137 people were female. The most common outcome for cases was a community correction order (33.2% or 75 cases).
