In the Magistrates' Court, 1,541 charges of possess a Schedule 8, 9 or 4 poison were sentenced in the three years to 30 June 2023. The most common sentence for a charge of this offence was a fine (33% or 519 charges).

Case data

In 1,030 cases sentenced in the Magistrates' Court in the three years to 30 June 2023, each case included at least one charge of possess a Schedule 8, 9 or 4 poison. Among the 1,030 cases, 808 people were male and 220 people were female. The most common outcome for cases was a fine (26% or 269 cases).
